Bainbridge Island Chamber of Commerce exhibits its support for sustainability efforts by adopting a Sustainability Resolution.
The Bainbridge Island Chamber of Commerce supports sustainability in the City of Bainbridge Island, and the board has recently passed a resolution to that effect, committing to working with members and the community at large to foster the conditions necessary for a sustainable future.
The Chamber is following the framework of The Natural Step, a nonprofit international team of advisors, associates, educators and scientists around the world working to help communities, businesses and organizations develop innovative and practical strategies toward sustainability.
The Chamber board invites the membership and the community to come together to seek innovations and solutions that promote sustainability.
The Four Principles of Sustainability (From The Natural Step)
1. Reduce and eventually eliminate our contribution to the progressive buildup of materials (and their associated wastes) extracted from the Earth's crust
2. Reduce and eventually eliminate our contribution to the progressive build-up of synthetic materials produced by society
3. Reduce and eventually eliminate our contribution to the ongoing physical degradation of Nature
4. Reduce and eventually eliminate our contribution to conditions that undermine people’s ability to meet their basic needs.
Watch for sustainability workshops, presentations and other activities in the near future.
