The following winners of the sixth annual Bainbridge Island Chamber of Commerce Membership Awards were announced on March 3, 2018:
- Small Business of the Year – Fairy Tale Dental
- Medium Business of the Year – Bainbridge Gardens
- Large Business of the Year – Puget Sound Energy
- Sustainable Business of the Year – A Kitchen That Works
- Non-Profit of the Year – Bainbridge Community Foundation
- Citizen of the Year/2018 Grand Old 4th Parade Marshal – Clarence Moriwaki
This year, a special award In Memoriam was created for the late Frank Buxton, long-time Grand Old 4th parade announcer and co-founder of the Buxton-Ellis Most Humorous Parade Entry prize.
Guests at the event, hosted at and catered by Wing Point Golf & Country Club, were treated to a delicious dinner with wine and a choice of decadent desserts donated by island bakeries Blackbird Bakery, Sweet Dahlia Baking LLC, and L’Atelier TR.
In addition, the winning entry of the 2018 Grand Old 4th poster contest was revealed, and the artist – BHS senior Chloe Halbert – was awarded the $1,000 scholarship by representatives of the contest sponsor, Puget Sound Energy.
City of Bainbridge Island Mayor Kol Medina was on hand to swear in the 2018 Chamber Board of Directors.
Main sponsors of the event were Kitsap Bank, with additional sponsors Harrison Medical Center/CHI Franciscan, Puget Sound Energy, and wine sponsor First Federal. Award plaques were hand-crafted by local artisan Anthony Piazza of Bainbridge Island Woodworks. Thanks to Flamingo Audio for sound and lighting, to Isaac Swanson for the loan of glassybaby votives, and to Cheryl Loveseth Oliver for the beautiful floralscapes, and Eleven Winery.
